ABOUT

Student-athletes between the ages of ten to sixteen experience immense pressure to succeed in athletics that previous generations could never understand. These days, many young athletes play just one sport year-round in hopes to attain an elite status and an elusive college scholarship. In eliminating other sports and pushing themselves too hard in one, youth bodies may be experiencing too much rigor. Increasing numbers of young student-athletes are experiencing overuse and stress-related injuries because of overly concentrated and extensive training schedules.

The results of uneducated parents and coaches can lead to the prevalence of overuse injuries in youth. Sport specialization has become a cultural norm for athletes between the ages of ten and sixteen. If a young athlete has not chosen a sport by the time they enter middle school, society states that they are already behind other children that focus on one sport or activity. This website explains the benefits found through cross trianing and where an athlete should start their offseason.

Disclaimer: The following information talks about the benefits that professional athletes experience through cross training. Before someone engages in strenuous cross training exercises, they should consult a doctor or a professional trainer prior to participation.
