A multifaceted field of study in which movement or physical activity is the intellectual focus. This includes exercise of improvement of health and physical fitness and activities of daily living, work, sport, and play.

An overuse injury is micro traumatic damage to a bone, muscle or tendon that has been subjected to repetitive stress without sufficient time to heal or undergo the natural reparative process.

The action or practice of engaging in two or more sports or types of exercise in order to improve fitness or performance in one's main sport.

Research Supports The Growing Trend Of Overuse Injuries Within Youth Athletics

* Sport specialization is growing in young student-athletes, which is leading to a higher rate of overuse and stress-induced injuries. The added amount of repetition in a single sport can leave a lifelong lasting negative impact on young athletes. Arnold 2017

My name is Ryan Gamache, and while I may not be a medical professional, I am a health expert with extensive experience in teaching and coaching student-athletes between the ages of ten and sixteen. Through thorough research and personal experience, something needs to be done in regards to the rising amount of overuse injuries within youth athletics.Cross training may provide answers when attempting to lower the rate of overuse injuries within youth athletics.
